Outreach
Located in Orion, IL, we try to do as much with our town as possible and those areas surrounding us! Throughout our season we give many presentations and demonstrations to interested crowds. These have been the outreach we have done this season alone:
Western District Library
Our team presented at Western District Library for an amazing crowd! We had an amazing time explaining FTC and teaching people of all ages how to drive the robot.
FTC/FRC Day at John Deere
Our team was able to present at John Deere for their FTC/FRC Day! We got to tour their facilities. It was such a fun experience and we enjoyed getting to meet the other teams.
Rosie's Boxcar
We had the amazing opportunity to partner with Rosie's Boxcar, a local foodtruck, for a fundraiser. We created our own burger, The Show Stopper, and an energy drink, The Robo Refresher, to sell! It was so fun!
Ignite Peoria
We were lucky enough to attend the FTC workshops at Ignite Peoria. We learned so much and had so much fun! We were able to go to many different sessions, such as Mechanical Design and FTC Basis 101. We found it very helpful to teach our whole team!
Andover Days
We were able to set up a robot demo in the park for Andover Days. We presented about our team and our robot, Surge. We taught kids and adults alike how to drive Surge. We were also able to give out lots of STEM swag, like our 3-D printed lighting bolts and binary code bracelet making kits!
The Lions Club
We were incredibly grateful to be able to present in front of our local Lions Club chapter at one of their meetings. We gave an informational presentation and demonstrated our robot capabilities.
8th Grade Orientation
We were able to set up a table at the 8th grade orientation to encourage incoming freshman to join robotics. We got to interact with some great kids and are looking forward to them being on our team in the future! We also were able to show younger children how to drive the robot and explain how it works. It was so much fun!
Mentoring FLL Teams
These past three years, as Orion Middle School restarted their FLL program, our team assisted their teams in learning how to program and accomplish their missions most efficiently. With our help, they have learned how to use sensors and to use block programming effectively as they prepared for their state competition. Through this, we built strong relations with the middle school students and encouraged them to join our team as they entered high school.
